Fuchsia Flowers - Coming up next week!!

After so long gap I am back again and will try my best to show some flowers. So please stay tuned for my next flower called - "Fuchsia" I always call it Dangling Diamonds. And yes we will use our old gold 5 petal punch along with few other things. In below picture I have used Heartfelt Creations New die and stamps called Cascading Fuchsia.

Lets Make Hibiscus

Hello DIY World,
So sorry for the delay. This winter grabbed my Mojo :-( and now spring gave me some energy and my Mojo back so I am here starting DIY flower making series. Hope you all are with me so far.

I would like to start again with the simple flower with 5 petal flower punch. But first little about this beautiful flower...



"Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. It is quite large, containing several hundred species that are native to warm-temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are often noted for their showy flowers and are commonly known simply as hibiscus, or less widely known as rose mallow. The genus includes both annual and perennial herbaceous plants, as well as woody shrubs and small trees. The generic name is derived from the Greek word, which was the name Pedanius Dioscorides"

Lets try to make this...

We will need 5 petal punch
Thin, not more than 80 lb white cards stock and green cardstock
Flower shaping tool
Flower stamens
Couple of inks, dauber,  Glue, Water spray bottle

 

Punch out few petals but we need only one to make one flower.

 

Need couple of colors or whatever color flower you want and with dauber color the edge and center with two different colors. You can color only center if you want since lot of Hibiscus flowers has only vibrant center.

 

Turn the petal upside down and spray water and make the petal moist.

 

From here we need to learn some folding technique. It is simple but bit tricky. I am using cotton fabric most of the time to make my petal natural looking but this petal is bit small to use fabric technique. I will try my best to explain how to make a center for each petal and crease lines.

 

Take one petal and fold in a half. I marked two points with pencil so you just need to hold the petal from center and squeeze the first line from the center first, inside and then second line. You can do it three time if you want to. Repeat this step for rest of the petals. 

 

Then open all petals gently.

 

With ball flower shaping tool you need to roll very gently so the texture we gave by folding will not get flat.

 

Push the center so all petal automatically get close and we will find the cup shape center to make a hole to put flower stamens.

 

I do have this shape punch to make the back of the flower but you can hand cut or use any similar punch to get this cutout in green.

 

We will need to make a hole on this one too :-) 

                                                                                  

 

 

 

Using strong liquid glue just assemble the flower.

 

This is very easy flower but so elegant looking. Now your flowers are ready for your project.

 

 

Here is my card....isn't it pretty. I always love to use different types of flowers on my project. So please come out from your roses and rose buds and try something different....I am sure you will enjoy!

Gorgeous Gardenia Tutorial

Little about this precious flower...

Gardenia is a genus of flowering plants in the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, southern Asia, Australasia and Oceania

In China and Japan, Gardenia jasminoides is called zhīzi and kuchinashi, respectively. Its blossom is used as a yellow dye, used on fabric and food (including the Korean mung bean jelly called hwangpomuk). Its fruits are also used in traditional Chinese medicine for their clearing, calming, and cooling properties.
In France, gardenias are the flower traditionally worn by men as boutonnière when in evening dress.
Sigmund Freud remarked to the poet H.D. that gardenias were his favorite flower.

 

Lets attempt to make some Gardenias...

Please check the instructions below the pictures. These are very easy to make in few steps. I hope you will find this tutorial interesting.

 

 

Are you ready?

Lets start...

 

I have used EK success basic flower punches in Second large, medium and small.

First cut two petals in Large and three in Medium size. We need one dowel or pen or any thick stick to wrinkle the petals.

 

Take only one flower and spray some water and on the stick squeeze each petal holding both sides, I will have videos soon but will try to explain here.

 

After squeezing , just twist the tip of each petals so ...

your first flower petal looks like that.

 

Take the next large flower petal and pinch all petals as shown in picture. Always spray little water before shaping any flower so when it dry it will be hard as it is.

 

 

Now we will need three small petals so use the small punch.

Now just need to roll each petal with small boll tool and push the middle to make a cup shape.

 

Here I got three different shapes, First one is very closed, I have used little glue to hold like this.

Second is semi open and last one is open but not fully.

 

 

Here all our 5 layers of flower petals done. Lets assemble them.

 

Glue all three petals and for last layer of flower we need to twist either side of the each petal. Do not twist the tip of the petal only one side but keep the same side for each petal for twisting.

 

Here how it will look after done and this is our center of the Gardenia.

Now stick our two large layers and then this middle center.

 

 

Here is our Gorgeous Gardenia Ready for the project.

I have created couple of semi open buds.

 

 

We will need green bottom for our flower..right?

Here is the McGill punch I have used for this.

 

Need to shape it little bit using boll tool. Just roll from top to middle.

And glue our flower on it.

 

Done Done Done...

Cherry Blossoms Tutorial

Here is one of the beautiful flowers we are going to make, "Cherry Blossoms"
A little bit about this flower...

A cherry blossom is the flower of any of several trees of genus Prunus, particularly the Japanese Cherry, Prunus serrulata, which is called sakura after the Japanese.
India :
In India, cherry blossom is attraction as well, most notably in eastern and northeastern India and in various British-era botanical gardens especially in cooler climatic zones such as in the Himalayas, Nilgiri Hills, Garo Hills, Khasi Hills as well as in some hill stations in the Western Ghats and in the northern districts of West Bengal of Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling.
USA:
Branch Brook Park, which is shared by the City of Newark and the Township of Belleville New Jersey, is the oldest county park in the United States and is home to the nation's' largest collection of cherry blossom trees, with about 4,300.^[45][46][47]
Japan gave 3,020 cherry blossom trees as a gift to the United States in 1912 to celebrate the nations' then-growing friendship, replacing an earlier gift of 2000 trees which had to be destroyed due to disease in 1910. These trees were planted in Sakura Park in Manhattan and line the shore of the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. (see West Potomac Park). The first two original trees were planted by first lady Helen Taft and Viscountess Chinda on the bank of the Tidal Basin. The gift was renewed with another 3,800 trees in 1965.^[48][49] In Washington, D.C. the cherry blossom trees continue to be a popular tourist attraction (and the subject of the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival) when they reach full bloom in early spring.

  

Lets make these Petals with Papers !!

Showing two different ways to make these flowers.
Ek success Flower punch and LaLa Lands Cherry Blossom Flowers Die.
Or you can just draw 5 petal flower and cut.

 

We will need either of the flower cutting tool. If you are using dies then need die cutting machine.

White and Brown card stock for flowers and branches.

Punches, Small hole hand punch. Pair of Scissors, Glue, any pink shade ink, Dauber, Copic marker or any dark pink shade pen or marker. Flower shaping tool. Any branch shape die or just hand draw branches and cut.

Some Flower Stamens.

 

Here we got some punch outs in two different sizes and also die cuts in three different sizes.

You can use either one of these shapes.

 

Here I used my own technique to make the petal tips realistic.

Using small hole punch just punch the tip of each petal to give some natural effect but use this technique when you are using traditional punched flowers. Die cut already has that cut so if you are using dies then skip this step.

And with your ink and dauber just ink in the center and on the tip of each petal.

 

Using Copic marker or any marker put some dots in the center.

 

Using one of the flower shaping ball tool just roll in the center so all petals comes together like a cup shape, it is called cupping.

 

Now make a small hole in the center and with the little bit of glue stick some flower stamens.

We will be making DIY flower stamens in our future tutorial.

 

Here we arranged our beautiful DIY Cherry Blossoms using some brown branches. For Cherry Blossom Flower Cluster you don't need any leaves but if you want you can stick some small leaves.
